Hey Gang,

First, apologies for the lack of events recently...Maeve and I had a long streatch where we were not feeling well and then we had out-of-town visitors taking up some of our time.

Let's try a morning stroll at the Hiram Chittendon Locks in the north Magnolia neighborhood. The locks are maintained by the US Army Crops of Engineers and are also known as the Ballard Locks and the Lake Washington Locks. They also contain a salmon run and were built to facilitate salmon returning home to spawn. The main salmon run is from July through September so this should be a prime time to visit the locks and see the salmon swimming and jumping up stream.

The locks have a visitor center, a viewing room for the salmon run, and a botanical garden. So there should be pleanty of boats, fish, and flowers to see.

Check out driving directions and other info here:

Let's meet at the visitor center at 10:30am on Thuesday, August 7. We will hang out there for 15 min or so and wait for everyone to gather. We can check out the salmon ladder, watch the boats float by, and then walk through the gardens.

While Maeve and I haven't been to the locks before, there are supposed to be a few interesting places for lunch in the area. If anyone is interested in getting a bite to eat after we visit the locks, we can find try and find something in the area.
